Qatar Airways says that the crew dealt with the dead passenger “appropriately”

Qatar Airways says the internal review has found that its crew was “spent quickly, appropriate and professional” when they put the body of a woman who died in the middle of the flight next to an Australian couple.

The airline issued the statement to the BBC on Friday, after the couple told the ninth Australian channel that it was shocked by the experience on the Melbourne trip to Doha.

In a previous statement, Qatar Airways apologized for “any inconvenience or distress that may cause this incident.”

The accident sparked a discussion on the procedures related to dealing with deaths on board.

Mitchell Range and Jennifer Coleen, who were traveling to Venice for a vacation, said the cabin crew put the dead woman, covered with blankets, next to Ring for four hours of a 14 -hour trip.

The woman collapsed and then died along the corridor next to them. After that, the crew tried but failed to move her body to the business degree section because “she was a very big lady and they were unable to get it through the corridor,” said Mr. Ring.

Then they asked Mr. Ring to move and put the lady in the seat in which he was.

While Mrs. Colin was invited by another passenger to sit next to her across the corridor, Mr. Ring said that the plane staff did not offer him to another place despite the presence of vacant seats around her.

Qatar Airways said on Friday that the treatment of the crew with the death of women was “in line with training and normative industry.”

“The passengers were absorbed to other seats, and one of the crew was sitting at all times with the deceased passenger throughout the flight until the landing in Doha,” his statement said.

“It is an unfortunate fact that unexpected deaths occur at times on board the aircraft through the aviation industry and our staff are highly trained in dealing with these situations with the greatest possible respect and dignity.”

The airline also said it has provided support and compensation to the family of the deceased and other travelers who were directly affected by the accident.

“We completely understand that we cannot carry the airline responsible for the death of the poor lady, but certainly there must be a customer care protocol on the plane,” Mrs. Colin said in a television interview with Channel 9.

When the plane landed, Mr. Range said that the passengers were asked to stay at a time during the arrival of the medical staff and the police. He said that ambulance officers began to withdraw the blankets from the woman and saw her face.

“I cannot believe that they asked us to stay,” he said, adding that they believe that they will allow travelers to leave the plane first before allowing medical employees to deal with the body.

“The crew usually tries to isolate the body, so there is no exposure to passengers to the body and vice versa, for respect and privacy, but also for medical reasons.”

According to the instructions conducted by the International Air Transport Association on dealing with deaths on a trip, the deceased person must be transferred to a seat, preferably a few other passengers nearly, covered with a blanket or body bag to the neck. The body can also be transferred to another area that does not hinder the corridor or go out.

Upon landing, the association recommends that other passengers be revealed before the commission attended by the local authorities.
