BRUSSELE (Reuters) – The Trump administration said on Monday that the Trump administration is not involved in talks to avoid the trade conflict with the European Union.
European Trade Commissioner Marus Sevkovic told reporters in Brussels that he had traveled to Washington last month with the aim of starting a dialogue to avoid “unnecessary pain for measures and counter measures.”
Civkovic said that the two sides have identified some mutual fields of follow -up.
“But in the end, one hand can not applaud. The US administration does not seem to be involved in a deal.”
Civkovic said that the European Union was ready for constructive participation, that no one wins the definitions and that the partners with 1.6 trillion euros ($ 1.7 trillion) of mutual trade should be “very cautious.”
“So our doors are open. But of course, if it does not achieve this positive result, in this case, we will always protect European companies, workers and consumers from the unjustified tariff,” he said.
“I think we were very clear about it and I know they expect less of us.”
