Vinfast plans to install EV charging stations throughout Indonesia, the minister says

The Minister of Investment at Jakarta (Reuters) -Vinfast, said Vinfast, plans to manufacture Vietnamese electric vehicles, to install up to 100,000 charging stations throughout the country, after President Prabo Subanto met with representatives of the company on Tuesday.

Minister Rosan Rouzilani also said that the Venevis Factory in West Java will start operations next year, with a production capacity of 50,000 units annually. The company erupted on the association factory, EV, at a value of $ 200 million last year.

Vinfast did not immediately respond to the comment. The company’s executive officials refused to speak to the press after an interview with Brabu.

Indonesia has ambitions to become an EV manufacturing center, in an attempt to take advantage of its nickel -rich reserves, and is used to manufacture EV batteries. The government also offers a set of incentives to auto makers.

The adoption of electric cars in the country has also increased in recent months as more EV makers offer reasonable prices. Car sales in February increased by 2.2 % on an annual basis, which is the first increase since June 2023 and mostly pushed through EV sales.

Rosan said that the investment of its planned charging station in Vinfast could help increase growth.

“Vinfast has chosen shipping station points. For us, with EV, the adoption of electric cars can rise,” said Rosan.

The minister said that the company was also studying investments in the renewable energy sector in Indonesia, and building wind farms and solar panels.

The Publico meeting with Vinfast came a day after the Indonesian president held a bilateral meeting with the head of the Vietnamese Communist Party to Lam, during which he agreed to increase their economic cooperation.
