“Actor” interview: Andre Holland and Jima Chan

The opening in theaters throughout the country on March 14 is the mystery of the new crime, “The actor”, which was directed by Duke Johnson (“Anomalisa”), and the stars Andre Holland (“Moonlight” and “Showing forgiveness”) and Jimmt Chan (“Asian Reveon” and “Eternal”).

It was very happy to talk to André Holland and Gemma Chan about their work in the “actor”, their characters, the story, the actors, work together, and work with director Duke Johnson.

Mov version: To start, Andrei, what can you tell us about your personality, Paul Cole?

Andre Holland: Well, this is the issue of the movie, who is Paul Cole? Will the real Paul Cole stand? Therefore, the film relies on a book called “Memory” by Donald Witkelik. He was appointed in 1955, when we find Paul Cole. He is a theatrical actor who was on a tour with the travel group throughout the Middle West. He wakes up in a hospital bed without any memory of who he is, does not know his place, or his band, and later discovered, move to the next city. This story is largely about trying to assemble these clues to restore his life together and know who he is. Then along the way, this amazing creature faces and then he must decide whether it makes sense to continue his research to find his old life or stay and build a new one.

MF: Gemma, what can you say about Edna, and what did you enjoy in playing?

Gemma Chan: Therefore, Edna from a small town in Ohio. She is at a stage of her life where she did not think that she would fall in love again or meet someone who could make her feel all these feelings, as the weakness is one of them. I feel that when you meet Paul, they feel something, see something and communicate with each other immediately. I know that Duke, the director, wanted us a lot to come to ourselves to these characters. I love Edna. There is a sweetness for it, but also the strength inside it is also a real weakness.

MF: Gemma, how was it like collaborating with director Duke Johnson in this movie?

GC: I saw Duke, “Anomalisa”, and I loved it. Then I read this scenario and talked to him about his vision of what he wanted to do. I felt like a chance to do something different. It does not come often. From the fact that he wanted to play a group of actors who would play multiple roles within the film to the desire to use many practical effects in the way the film was launched and brought them from the world of animation to live. It looked like a magic and different thing. Then reach work with amazing actors such as André, was a unique experience. Duke had a clear vision of what he wanted to do, but he also trusted us to achieve feelings of our characters. Therefore, I felt like a cooperative process.

Mf: André, how was the work with an incredible group?

Yes: It took a leap of faith on the part of all actors of diving and going to that. I think this is one of the things that the theater asks you to do all the time. You don’t have enough time, and you don’t get enough money, you just have to go. Therefore, I think, in this case, a group of stars who created the collection. May Camaawy, Olwen (Fouéré), Tracey Ullman, Simon McBurney, we had killers. Everyone was like, “Well, let’s know that. Give me a wig and give me a mustache and I will be this person and then I will replace it and be another person.” It was really a lot of fun.

MF: André, what will you say to the audience sitting to watch this movie now to prepare them for the theatrical experience that is going on?

Yes: Well, I think it is a different movie from any movie I have ever seen. He is of great magic quality for her, and has beautiful shows, and he is wonderfully photographed and very fun. It is the type of movie that I think you can see with a large group of people. It is the type of movie that I think makes the theater experience really distinctive. He is designed to be seen in the theater. It does not mean that you cannot sit at home and watch it on a laptop, you can, but you will lose, I think. So, I will encourage people to collect a group of people together, go to get some popcorn and go to watch the movie. Then go to get a drink and talk about it after that. I think it is worth your time.

MF: Gemma, what is your experience like working with André?

GC: Well, it was a dream. I told him this before, but he is a talented actor, too generous. In every scene, every small article we photographed as our characters, was joyful. I felt I could be weak with him. He is a good listener. Just a great actor. I can’t talk greatly enough. I was a great fan of his work before doing it. It is a large part of the reason why yes to do the project.

MF: Finally, Andrei, did you enjoy working with GEMMA on the group?

Yes: We will be here all day if you start to flow on this woman. It’s unusual, the best there is. A great actor, a great person, and we had fun time. I am very proud of the movie, but I am proud of the same friendship that came out of it.
