On Monday, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel called for European unity in the face of the current political challenges, and told the Reniche Post that it is important to stick to each other to avoid “withdrawal”.
Merkel, a Christian democratic, added that immigration has also been a European mission that can only be addressed in consultation with neighboring countries.
The 70 -year -old also commented on the results of the federal elections for Germany on February 23, saying that she was pleased that her party had won.
However, she expressed concern about the power of the far -right alternative to Germany (AFD), saying: “Of course, I was hoping that AFD was as strong as it is.”
Merkel noted that the weakness of the political center “must care about everyone and care about me as well.”
It hopes that the current negotiations between the Christian Democratic Bloc (CDU)/the Christian Social Union (CSU) and social Democrats (SPD) will lead to the formation of a new government, as the left -wing alliance in the center has caused many general discontent in recent years.
She also expressed support for the planned increase in defensive spending by the CDU/CSU and SPD block.
Merkel was the first adviser in German history, spending from 2005 to 2021. In December 2021, Olaf Scholls of the Social Democratic Party succeeded.
