Foods that are prepared high -treatment are a major part of the Canadian diet, and a new study indicates that these products contribute to health problems and deaths in the country. The research, which was published on Tuesday, suggested that nearly four in 10 heart diseases and stroke are linked to consuming super treatment products.

“More than a third of all the cardiovascular events-or 38 percent-with food processing in 2019, said Virgin Hamel, a professional and a doctorate candidate at the University of Montreal, said in this study. Yahoo Canada. “This study … shows how high -element treated foods are a major element in the burden of heart disease and stroke in Canada.”

38 percent of the cardiovascular events associated with the consumption of very treated food include more than 96,000 cases of heart disease and stroke, 55 percent of which are men. There were also more than 17,400 deaths, with 52 percent of men.

The study also found that Canadians over the age of 20 have a diet, as these products make up more than 43 percent of the total daily energy intake. Now, researchers press more change and new policies, especially on organizing how to market super -prepared foods to children.

What are some of the worst foods very treated?

Hamel said that the researchers looked at previous studies of foods that were often processed that Canadians consume. She added: “According to the most 2015 acting data in Canada, one of the most treated foods is commercial bread,” she added.

However, she said that some other most common foods consumed by Canadians include chips, frozen meals, cakes, biscuits, pies and soft drinks. Other foods that have been prepared may include:

  • Local breakfast and oats

  • Restructuring meat products such as hot dogs and fish sticks

  • Dried and packed soup

  • Local ice and milk

  • Ghee and spread like cream cheese

What are the super -treated foods?

According to Hamel, processed foods are products that may include sugar, salt or oil before they are filled for sale. This is done to increase the preservation of the product, but no other additives are usually included and the processing is simpler. On the other hand, very treated foods “have many treatment steps”-such as confidence, stereotypes and grinding-as well as “additions that we may not face in the kitchen”, explained.

When it comes to ultra -treated foods, Hamel said that the goal of the products is for shoppers to have something “practical, funny, comfortable and attractive”, but they are “very transferred.” Foods are very treated in sugar, salt and fat, while they are usually poor quality and lack nutrients. In turn, it can enhance weight gain because it does not make you feel full.

How can I eat less processed foods?

Hamel pointed out that grocery stores, which indicate similar fashions. I suggested that shoppers be starting to roam in the store and start sections that carry vegetables, fruits and other fresh foods. If you choose to go through manufactured products corridors, she said it is good to have a goal in mind.

“If you really know what you want, this is a good thing. But you can get lost easily,” said Hamel. In these cases, I suggested that people are looking for food products ready for eating that are not necessarily dealt with. Otherwise, people stated that you do not have to cook daily and instead they can offer a meal for your week.

But for people who may choose adventure in each corridor full of highly treated products, she advised to check the ingredient menu to ensure better foods. She said: “If there is a list of many ingredients that we cannot pronounce and we do not have in our kitchen, this is an indication that it may be a superb treatment, and perhaps not a good idea in our groceries.”

“We always like to put weight on people for a better performance, but it is difficult to do better in the context we are now.”

Why do experts want “change”

The researchers also looked at what would happen if the Canadians made changes on their diet. Fortunately, there will be an estimated 45,000 heart disease and stroke as well as more than 8,000 deaths if people cut their nutritional consumption in half of the treatment.

Even if people reduce their consumption by 20 percent, there will be positive benefits. In this case, there will be 3000 lower deaths and the burden of heart disease and stroke associated with the consumption of highly treated foods by 17 percent.

On the other hand, there will be higher problems if people consume food by 50 percent more than treatment. In this case, there will be approximately 3,500 additional deaths annually, and it will be 45 percent of new cases associated with the consumption of very treated food.

Hamil said that there should be a change in the aggressive marketing of foods that have been prepared for children because they are the nature of these products, which makes it difficult for competing parents. “We need mental change, we need a systematic change … and strong policies to help people reduce their consumption of very treated foods,” she said.
